Street Outreach
The Street Assistance Program is aimed at teens and young adults that are living on streets. This outreach consists of going to the places where these young people are living: abandoned buildings, sewers and other places (parks, etc). We care about them and this is the first step in their recovery process.
The purpose of going there is to reach them where they are. We build relationships with them, get to know their subculture, lifestyle and needs, their customs and values, and see what we can do to practically help them. We do this in a way that doesn’t produce dependence on us, but independence and responsibility.
Some of our team members have over 10 years of experience in street outreach.
We also meet some of their urgent practical needs such as: medical issues, providing ID’s, facilitating jobs, etc. Many of the people assisted by Teen Challenge through this outreach in the past are no longer living on the streets.
During our time together we invite them to the Teen Challenge Night and/or talk to them about our residential program.
Usually the street outreach is one day a week and starts in the late afternoon till midnight.
Many of our students from the Recovery Center and those who attend our Teen Challenge Evening Outreach are a result of this outreach.
